MRS. JOHN B. MUSCHANY

St. Charles Weekly Banner-News, 5/29/1913, 1-1

Mrs. John B. Muschany, one of the most highly regarded of the citizens of the O'Fallon neighborhood, died at her home at Sunny Side on the Dardenne, last evening, Tuesday, 5/27/1913, at 5 o'clock.

Although she had been sick for a long time, she temporarily showed excellent signs for recovery, and her death, unexpected and sudden, came as a great shock to the community.

She was one of the best known of the citizens of this county and her life was distinguished by kindness and affection and the other qualities which characterize the good Christian. Particularly was she an amiable friend, a good neighbor and a loving and faithful wife and mother. She was about 68 years old.

Besides her husband, she leaves five children, as follow: Sirmat and Clarence, both of whom now reside in Pettis County, Minerva, now Mrs. George Woodson, who resides in the same locality as her mother, Miss Anetta and Ewel, the youngest son, both of whom stay at home. All were at their mother's house when she died.

The funeral arrangements have not at this writing been given out.

SAMUEL C. MUSCHANY

SAMUEL C. MUSCHANY

(Farmer, post-office Dardenne)

Dr. John B. Muschany came from Germany as a young man and a graduate of one of the prominent German medical universities, and entered upon the practice of his profession in St. Charles county in an early day. He was first located at St. Charles, but afterwards changed to Dardenne, where he was successfully engaged in the practice of medicine until a short time before his death. In 1860 he returned to St. Charles, and died there, two years afterwards. He was a man of marked intelligence and superior culture, and one of the really learned and skillful physicians of this part of the country. A man, however, of a singularly retiring and modest disposition, he never rose to that notoriety in his profession which some had attained--among those who knew him well he was universally regarded as a practitioner of a profound knowledge of medicine and eminent ability. He married in this country, Miss Janetta McCluer becoming his wife. She was originally from Virginia and survived her husband until 1880. Nine children were the fruits of their married life and seven are living. Mrs. Muschany was an exemplary member of the Presbyterian Church. Samuel C. was born in this county, Jan. 16, 1839. He was brought up to a farm life, and received a good general education at the common schools of this county, and at Westminster College, Fulton, Mo. In 1868 he was married to Miss Virginia Moore, a daughter of John L. and Malinda Moore, formerly of Virginia. Mr. Muschany's first wife died in 1871; to his present wife he was married May 6, 1880. She was a Miss Lucy Harris before her marriage, a daughter of Noah and Lucinda Harris, whose sketch appears in this volume. Mrs. Muschany is a member of the Presbyterian Church. Mr. Muschany has a good farm of 250 acres and is comfortably situated. He is one of the energetic farmers of the township, and as a citizen stands well with all who know him. By this first wife he has one child, a daughter, Ada.
